Calculate transport costs and commuting deductions

Our transport calculators help you calculate your transport expenses, commuting deductions and compare different transport options. From fuel costs to EV comparison and commuter passes.

Commuting deduction and mileage allowance

In Denmark, you can receive a commuting deduction for the distance between home and work, regardless of transport mode. The deduction is calculated per km over 24 km daily. Mileage allowance is the tax-free payment your employer can give you for driving your own car for work purposes. Calculate your commuting deduction at skat.dk or use our calculator.

Fuel and car costs

Fuel prices in Denmark are among the highest in Europe due to high taxes. Petrol typically costs 12-14 DKK/litre and diesel 11-13 DKK/litre. Total costs of owning a car include fuel, insurance, green ownership tax, service, tyres and depreciation. Use our calculators to calculate your total car costs.

EV vs. petrol/diesel

Electric vehicles have lower operating costs per km than petrol and diesel cars. Charging typically costs 1-3 DKK/kWh, and an EV uses approximately 15-20 kWh per 100 km. However, the purchase price is often higher. Our calculator helps you compare total costs over time.

Public transport and commuter passes

Prices for bus, train and metro in Denmark depend on zones. Rejsekort offers discounts compared to single tickets. A commuter pass can pay off for daily commuting. Compare prices with our calculators.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost to drive 1,000 km by car?

Fuel cost depends on the car's consumption and fuel price. An average petrol car uses approximately 6 litres/100 km, so 1,000 km costs approximately 60 litres x 13 DKK/litre = 780 DKK in fuel. A diesel car at 5 litres/100 km costs approximately 600 DKK. An EV at 18 kWh/100 km costs approximately 360 DKK with home charging (2 DKK/kWh). Additionally, there is wear, service and depreciation.

What are the rules for mileage allowance in Denmark?

Mileage allowance is a tax-free payment from your employer for driving your own car for work purposes. The rate is set annually by the Danish Tax Agency. To receive the allowance tax-free, you must keep a driving log with date, purpose, start and end address and number of km. Your employer must verify the information.

Is it worth buying an electric car in Denmark?

An EV typically has lower operating costs than a petrol or diesel car: lower fuel costs (1-3 DKK/kWh vs. 12-14 DKK/litre), lower green ownership tax and lower service costs. However, the purchase price is often higher. For commuters with many km, an EV can save 20,000-40,000 DKK annually in operating costs. Use our calculator to compare over 5-10 years.
