Calculate SU, student loans and education finances

Our education calculators help you calculate your SU grant, student loans, grade point average and other education-related figures. Plan your finances during and after education with accurate calculations.

SU - State Education Support

SU is the Danish state's financial support for students. Calculate how much you will receive in SU with our calculator. The SU rate depends on whether you live away from home or at home, and whether you are under or over 18. As a student over 20 living away from home, you can receive approximately 6,397 DKK/month before tax (2026).

SU loans and repayment

In addition to SU, you can take out SU loans of approximately 3,234 DKK/month during education. The SU loan has a low interest rate, and repayment typically starts one year after completing education with a term of up to 15 years. Our calculator shows what your monthly payment will be.

Grade point average and admission

Calculate your weighted ECTS average with our calculator. The weighted average accounts for ECTS credits per course, so courses with more credits count more. For admission to higher education, the qualifying exam average is used, which can be multiplied by 1.08 if you apply within two years of your exam.

Folk high school and other education expenses

Calculate your folk high school payment based on household income. Many families can receive state subsidies for folk high school stays. Education in Denmark is generally free for Danish and EU citizens, but there may be costs for materials and books.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much SU can I receive as a student living away from home?

As a student over 20 living away from home, you can receive approximately 6,397 DKK/month in SU before tax (2026 rate). For students under 20, the rate depends on parental income. Students over 20 living at home receive approximately 2,844 DKK/month. You can also earn a certain amount alongside SU without it affecting your grant.

How do I calculate my weighted average?

Your weighted average is calculated by multiplying each grade by the course's ECTS credits, summing the products and dividing by the total ECTS credits. For example: If you have 7 in a course with 10 ECTS and 10 in a course with 5 ECTS, your average is (7x10 + 10x5) / (10+5) = 120/15 = 8.0.

Is education free in Denmark?

Yes, education in Denmark is generally free for Danish citizens and EU/EEA citizens. This applies to primary school, upper secondary school, vocational education and higher education. Additionally, students receive SU (State Education Support) during their studies. However, there may be costs for books, materials and study trips.
