Child Benefits in Denmark
In Denmark, families with children under 18 are entitled to child benefits, known as bรธrnecheck or bรธrne- og ungeydelse. The benefit is paid quarterly and the amount depends on the child's age. The younger the child, the higher the benefit, reflecting the greater costs of caring for infants and toddlers. The payments are automatic and tax-free.
Child benefit rates 2025
For 2025, the annual rates are: 18,984 kr for children aged 0โ2, 15,024 kr for children aged 3โ6, 11,820 kr for children aged 7โ14, and 3,948 kr per quarter for children aged 15โ17 (15,792 kr/year). The benefit is reduced if the household income exceeds a certain threshold. Both parents must be Danish tax residents for the full amount.
How child benefits work
The benefit is paid to the parent who has the child living with them. For shared custody, the payment can be split equally between both parents. For youth aged 15โ17, the benefit is paid monthly instead of quarterly.
Income threshold and reduction
Child benefits are reduced if household income exceeds approx. 818,300 kr (2021 level). Use this calculator to estimate your quarterly and annual child benefits based on the number and age of your children.
