Area and Perimeter Calculator
This calculator helps you find the area and perimeter for two of the most common geometric shapes: rectangles and circles. Area and perimeter are fundamental concepts in geometry, used in many everyday situations - from calculating the size of a room to figuring out how much fencing you need for your garden.
Rectangles
A rectangle is a quadrilateral where all angles are 90 degrees. The area is calculated by multiplying the length by the width (A = l x w), and the perimeter is the sum of all four sides (P = 2 x (l + w)). For example, a rectangle with length 10 m and width 5 m has an area of 50 mยฒ and a perimeter of 30 m.
Circles
For a circle, the area is calculated using the formula A = pi x rยฒ, where r is the radius. The circumference is calculated using the formula C = 2 x pi x r. In this calculator, the "Length" field is used as the radius for the circle. A circle with radius 10 m has an area of approximately 314.16 mยฒ and a circumference of approximately 62.83 m.
Practical Applications
Calculating area and perimeter is useful in many contexts: flooring, painting walls, gardening, construction, and much more. For example, if you need to lay new flooring in a room, you need to know the area to buy the right amount of material. If you need to put up a fence, you need the perimeter.
Tips for Use
Select shape 1 for rectangle or shape 2 for circle. For rectangles, enter both length and width. For circles, only the length field is used as the radius - the width field is ignored. The result is rounded to two decimal places.
