Calculate distance from ball speed
Ball speed is the most important factor for driving distance. The faster the ball leaves the club face, the further it flies. This calculator estimates carry and total distance from ball speed.
Ball speed to carry
As a rule of thumb, each 1 mph of ball speed gives about 1.75 yards of carry. 140 mph ball speed gives about 245 yards carry (224 metres). Total distance includes roll and is typically 10% more than carry.
Typical ball speeds
Average male amateurs have 120-140 mph ball speed. PGA Tour average is about 170 mph. Female amateurs are typically 90-120 mph.
