BMI Calculator
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a widely used measure that relates your weight to your height. It provides a quick indication of whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. While BMI does not directly measure body fat, it is a useful screening tool endorsed by health authorities worldwide, including the Danish Health Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen).
How BMI Is Calculated
BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal weight. Values below 18.5 indicate underweight, 25โ29.9 indicate overweight, and 30 or above indicate obesity. These thresholds are the same for men and women.
Limitations of BMI
BMI does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, so very muscular people may have a high BMI without being overweight. It is best used as a starting point alongside other health indicators such as waist circumference, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels. Always consult a healthcare professional for a complete assessment.
