Calculate tiles for your project

Our tile calculator helps you determine the precise number of tiles for your bathroom, kitchen or floor. The calculator automatically includes 10% extra for waste and cutting, which is standard for tiling work.

Tile sizes

The most popular tile sizes in Denmark are 15ร—15 cm, 20ร—20 cm, 30ร—30 cm and 60ร—60 cm. Larger tiles create fewer grout lines and a more modern look but require a completely level surface.

Grout

Grout consumption depends on tile size and grout width. As a rule of thumb, about 0.5 kg of grout is used per mยฒ with standard tiles. Narrow grout joints of 2-3 mm are most common for wall tiles, while floor tiles typically have 3-5 mm joints.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many extra tiles should I buy for waste?

Calculate at least 10% extra for straight laying and 15-20% for diagonal laying or complex patterns. Always keep extra tiles for future repairs.

How wide should the grout joint be?

Wall tiles typically have 2-3 mm joints, floor tiles 3-5 mm. Large tiles (60ร—60 cm+) require at least 3 mm to compensate for small size variations. Narrow joints give a more elegant look, while wider joints are more forgiving with uneven tiles.

How much grout do I need?

As a rule of thumb, about 0.5 kg of grout is used per mยฒ with 30ร—30 cm tiles and 3 mm joints. Larger tiles use less grout, and mosaic tiles use more. Grout is typically sold in 5 kg bags.
