Calculate gravel for your garden
Our gravel calculator helps you determine the right amount of gravel for driveways, paths, drainage layers and paving bases. Gravel is one of the most widely used materials in landscaping and construction.
Gravel types and uses
Gravel comes in many grain sizes: fine (2-8 mm) for paths and decorative use, medium (8-16 mm) for driveways and drainage, and coarse (16-32 mm) for foundations and base layers. Pea gravel with round stones is used for paths and beds, while angular crushed stone is used for bases.
Driveway base
A gravel driveway typically needs 5-10 cm of gravel on top of a base layer of stable gravel (10-20 cm). For cars, 5 cm topping is sufficient, while heavy traffic needs 8-10 cm.
Delivery and pricing
Gravel is sold in 25 kg bags, bulk bags (about 1,000 kg) or loose delivery by truck. Loose delivery is by far the cheapest for larger quantities. One cubic metre of gravel weighs about 1,600 kg and typically costs 200-500 DKK depending on type.
