The most popular deck boards are pressure-treated pine (14.5 cm wide), hardwood (e.g. bangkirai or ipe) and composite boards. Standard width is 14.5 cm with 5 mm gap for water drainage.
Plan for about 20 screws per mยฒ. Always use stainless steel (A4) or acid-resistant screws. Pre-drill to avoid splitting.

Standard gap is 5 mm between deck boards, ensuring water drainage and allowing for natural wood movement. For composite boards, follow manufacturer guidelines, typically 5-8 mm.
Pressure-treated pine is cheapest (10-15 year lifespan). Hardwoods like bangkirai and ipe last 25-40 years but cost more. Composite requires minimal maintenance and lasts 25+ years. Thermowood is a good middle option lasting 15-25 years.
