Calculate insulation for your project

Our insulation calculator helps you determine the right amount of insulation material. Good insulation is one of the most important investments in a Danish home โ€“ it saves heat and money long-term.

Insulation types

The most common types are mineral wool (stone wool and glass wool) supplied in batts or rolls. A standard package covers about 4.32 mยฒ. Alternatives include cellulose (blown-in), polystyrene (EPS/XPS) and PUR foam.

Recommended thicknesses

Danish building regulations require certain U-values. For loft insulation, at least 300 mm is recommended; for external walls, 200-300 mm; for floors, 150-200 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What insulation thickness is recommended for lofts?

For loft insulation, at least 300 mm is recommended in Denmark to meet building regulations. Many choose 400 mm for extra savings, achieving a U-value of about 0.10 W/mยฒK. Loft insulation is the cheapest and most effective energy improvement.

What does a standard insulation package cover?

A standard mineral wool insulation package (batts) typically covers 4.32 mยฒ at 100 mm thickness. At 200 mm thickness, the package covers only about 2.16 mยฒ. Always check the manufacturer's specification.

Do I need a vapour barrier?

Yes, a vapour barrier is important on the warm side of the insulation to prevent moisture from penetrating. Without it, condensation can accumulate causing moisture damage and mould. It's typically installed as plastic sheeting on the inside of the insulation.
