Calculate weed fabric for your garden
Our weed fabric calculator helps you determine the right amount of weed fabric for your beds, paths or under paving. The calculator accounts for overlap between strips and recommends 10% extra for waste and fitting.
Overlap between strips
When laying weed fabric, it's important to overlap strips by at least 10-15 cm to prevent weeds from growing through the joints. A 15 cm overlap is the standard recommendation. In areas with heavy weed pressure, increasing the overlap to 20 cm is advisable.
Types of weed fabric
Several types are available: thin woven fabric (affordable, lasts 2-3 years), heavy-duty woven fabric (lasts 10-15 years) and geotextile (for under paving). For planted beds, choose fabric that allows water and air through. For paths, denser materials can be used.
Installation
Level the ground before laying. Secure the fabric with landscape pins approximately every 50 cm along edges and overlaps. Cut cross-shaped holes for plants. Cover with bark mulch or gravel for a neater appearance and longer durability.
