Calculate laminate flooring

Our laminate calculator helps you determine the number of packages needed. The calculator accounts for laying direction, which affects waste.

Laying direction and waste

Lengthwise laying (most common) requires 10% waste. Crosswise or diagonal laying requires 15% due to more cutting. Diagonal laying gives the best appearance but costs more.

Choosing laminate

Laminate comes in many qualities. AC3 suits bedrooms, AC4 for kitchens and hallways, AC5 for commercial use. Thickness ranges from 6 mm to 12 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between lengthwise and crosswise laying?

Lengthwise laying is most common and produces least waste (10%). Crosswise or diagonal laying produces more waste (15%) but can give a better visual result. Laminate is normally laid towards the light source (window) for best appearance.

What laminate thickness should I choose?

For residential use, at least 7-8 mm is recommended. 10-12 mm provides better sound insulation and feels more like real wood. For commercial use, choose at least 10 mm with AC5 wear class.

Can laminate be laid in the bathroom?

Standard laminate is NOT suitable for bathrooms due to moisture. Use waterproof laminate (SPC/WPC) or vinyl flooring for wet rooms instead. Waterproof laminate has a waterproof core and can withstand brief water exposure.
