What is turf?

Turf is pre-grown grass delivered in rolls of typically 1 m² (about 40×250 cm). It provides a finished lawn in hours rather than weeks with grass seed. Turf is ideal if you want a perfect lawn immediately and is more resistant to weeds than newly sown grass.

Turf typically costs 35-55 DKK per m² in Denmark, depending on quality and supplier. Preparation and delivery are additional costs. The estimated price uses an average of 45 DKK per m². For a 100 m² lawn, expect material costs of about 4,700 DKK.

Laying tips

Turf should be laid the same day as delivery. Prepare the base by levelling and rolling the soil. Lay rolls staggered like bricks and avoid joints running in a straight line. Water thoroughly immediately and keep the lawn wet for the first 2-3 weeks. Avoid walking on the new lawn for the first week.

How much waste should you calculate for turf?

Calculate 5% extra for waste from cutting and fitting. For areas with many curved edges, beds or trees, waste can be up to 10%. A rectangular area without obstacles has minimal waste. The calculator uses 5% as standard, suitable for most lawns.
