What is casting mix?

Casting mix is a pre-mixed dry product of cement, sand and gravel in the correct ratio. Just add water โ€“ typically 2.5-3 litres per 25 kg bag. Mixed casting mix weighs about 2,200 kg per mยณ.

When to use casting mix

Casting mix is ideal for smaller projects up to about 0.5 mยณ. For larger projects, ready-mixed concrete from a plant is often cheaper and easier.

How much water should I add?

Typically 2.5-3 litres of water per 25 kg bag. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the bag. Too little water makes the mix hard to work with; too much weakens the strength.

How long does it take to cure?

Casting mix can be walked on after about 24-48 hours. Full strength is achieved after 28 days. Keep the concrete moist for the first few days for optimal curing. Avoid frost during the curing period.
