Floor casting requires the most cement at about 350 kg/m³ for a strong surface. Masonry requires about 300 kg/m³, and foundations use about 250 kg/m³. These figures apply to standard concrete.

Cement types

Portland cement (CEM I) is used for most construction projects. Quick-setting cement hardens in 2-4 hours for repairs. White cement is used for decorative work. Sulphate-resistant cement is used in damp environments.

How big are cement bags?

In Denmark, cement is typically sold in 25 kg bags. You can also buy ready-mix in 25 kg bags. For larger projects, cement can be delivered in big bags of 500-1,000 kg or as loose cement in silos.

What is the difference between cement and concrete?

Cement is a powder that acts as a binding agent. Concrete is the finished mix of cement, sand, gravel and water. Cement typically makes up only 10-15% of concrete's weight. Mortar is a mix of cement, sand and water (without gravel) used for masonry.
