Calculate sealant

Our sealant calculator helps you determine the precise amount of sealant needed based on joint width, depth and length.

Sealant types

Common types include silicone (bathrooms and kitchens), acrylic (interior joints, paintable), MS polymer (universal) and polyurethane (outdoor). Silicone is most common for wet rooms.

Cartridge sizes

Sealant is typically sold in 310 ml cartridges for standard caulking guns. A 310 ml cartridge covers about 5 running metres at 6×6 mm joint.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many metres does a sealant cartridge cover?

A 310 ml cartridge covers about 5 running metres at 6×6 mm, about 8 metres at 5×5 mm and about 3 metres at 8×8 mm. The wider and deeper the joint, the more cartridges needed.

What type of sealant should I use in the bathroom?

In bathrooms use silicone with mould resistance (sanitary silicone). Acrylic sealant is NOT suitable for wet rooms. Choose neutral silicone for natural stone. Sanitary silicone contains fungicides to prevent mould.

How deep should the joint be?

Joint depth should generally equal joint width (e.g. 6×6 mm). For joints wider than 10 mm, depth should be max half the width. Use backer rod to control depth in deep joints.
