Calculate bricks for your project

Our brick calculator helps you determine the precise number of bricks and mortar needed. The calculator includes 5% extra for waste and cutting.

Brick formats

In Denmark, two main formats are used: Standard format (NF) measures 228×108×54 mm using about 60 per m². Denmark format (DF) measures 228×108×62 mm using about 55 per m².

Mortar

About 30 kg of mortar is typically used per m² of wall. Mortar is available as ready-mixed dry mortar or can be mixed from cement, lime and sand.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bricks do I need per m²?

Standard format (NF) uses about 60 bricks per m² with 10-12 mm joints. Denmark format (DF) uses about 55 per m². These numbers apply to half-brick walls. For full-brick walls (double thickness), double the quantity.

How much mortar do I need?

Plan for about 30 kg of mortar per m² of wall. A 25 kg bag of dry mortar covers about 0.8 m² of wall. Mortar is available as lime-cement or pure cement mortar depending on the purpose.

Should bricks be wetted before use?

Yes, bricks should always be thoroughly wetted before use. Dry bricks absorb moisture from the mortar, resulting in poor adhesion and weak joints. Briefly dip bricks in water or spray them with a hose.
